Symantec Corporation was founded in 1982 by Gordon Eubanks and is headquartered in Cupertino, California. The company has about 6 billion in revenue with a 15.2% year-over-year growth. It specializes in computer security, data protection and remote management software with both consumer and business offerings.

Symantec built a good part of its strength on the 'Norton' name, which refers to Peter Norton, founder of Norton Computing which Symantec bought in 1990. The Norton product line includes famous software titles such as Norton Antivirus and Norton Internet Security, designed to provide computer protection against a wide array of online threats.

Norton Computing was just one acquisition of Symantec, which developed extensively by acquiring many other companies such as Delrina in in 1995 (Winfax products), Binary Research in 1998 (Ghost) and more recently Veritas in 2005 (Backup Exec). Today, Symantec is represented in more than 40 countries and has a solid reputation: many of its software titles are considered references in their respective areas.
